 Paris Whitney Hilton (born February 17, 1981) is an American celebrity, socialite, actress, and recording artist. She is an heiress to a share of the Hilton Hotel fortune, as well as to the real estate fortune of her father Richard Hilton.
"Paris the Heiress" is first-born in the latest generation of the Hilton family, of swanky hotel fame. Fat trust fund aside, she is also known for being a high-society party girl, part-time model, and quasi-actress.
After graduating from high school, college didn't appeal to her. So, around the year 2000, Paris decided to branch out and become famous.She began to make a name for herself as a model, soon appearing in shows for designers such as Marc Bouwer and Catherine Malandrino, and she later completed an ad campaign for Iceberg, an Italian label. In addition, Paris has posed for spreads in national magazines such as GQ, Vanity Fair and FHM; she was most recently profiled, along with her sister, in People magazine.
At the same time, Paris became the center of attention because of her relationships -- real or imagined by the paparazzi -- with some of Hollywood's hottest young stars. In early 2000, Paris was spotted around town with Leonardo DiCaprio. However, the press, especially the National Enquirer, blew their casual friendship far out of proportion. Nevertheless, she apparently dated Terminator 2's Edward Furlong for a few months, and was later seen out and about with boxer Oscar de la Hoya. The latest news is that Paris is currently shacked up with actor and Tommy Hilfiger model, Jason Shaw.
Paris, along with her younger sister Nicky, also became notorious as socialites, gracing party after party and getting bad press for their antics. For example, Paris has grabbed headlines by shoving ahead of others in a washroom line, then, when upbraided for her rudeness, quipped that she only wanted to look at herself in the mirror. She has also danced on top of bar banquettes, gone topless for attention, and paraded around in designer T-shirts with slogans like, ''Got Blow?'' Yet Paris maintains that the bad press ''sucks'' and that ''people are mean.''
Perhaps in an effort to clean up her image, Paris has tried to make her mark by working on more substantial projects. In 2001, she had a cameo appearance in Ben Stiller's fashion spoof, Zoolander. Other appearances include a role as a strung-out supermodel in the film short QIK2JDG and the upcoming The Hillz (co-starring boyfriend Jason Shaw), and negotiations are underway for Paris to star in an upcoming FOX reality show along the lines of Green Acres.
On top of that, along with her sister, Paris has designed a high-end collection of purses for Tokyo label Samantha Thavasa. Paris has also given back; she has done charity work for Toys for Tots. Unfortunately, her attempts to start a modeling company and a makeup line seem to have fizzled.
Hilton rose to fame when a home-made sex video of her was leaked onto the Intern
 et in late 2003. The release of the tape, later titled 1 Night in Paris (2004), attracted worldwide publicity and contributed to the success of Hilton's Fox reality series The Simple Life. The release of the tape led to speculation that it was a deliberate publicity stunt,[8] but Hilton has strongly denied such claims and stated she was "embarrassed" and "humiliated" by the publicity brought by the tape As an actress, she has appeared in several minor[citation needed] roles, most notably in the horror film House of Wax (2005), and in 2006, she released the self-titled album Paris.
Hilton was arrested and charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of 0.08, the limit in California, in September 2006. Hilton's drivers license was subsequently suspended in November 2006[36], and in January 2007 she pled no contest to the alcohol-related reckless driving charge.[37] Her punishment was a 36 month probation sentence and fines of about $1,500.[38]
On February 27, 2007 Hilton was caught driving 70 MPH in a 35 MPH zone with a suspended license. She also did not have her headlights on, even though it was after dark. Prosecutors in the office of the Los Angeles City Attorney charged that those actions, along with the failure to enroll in a court-ordered alcohol education program constituted a violation of the terms of her probation.[36] On May 4, 2007 Hilton was sentenced by Judge Michael T. Sauer to 45 days in jail for violating her probation, and she is required to begin her jail term June 5, 2007 or risk a doubling of her sentence
Initially, Hilton planned to appeal her sentence, and supported an online petition asking California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for a pardon.] In response, various opponents started a petition to maintain the sentence. Both petitions attracted tens of thousands of signatures. Paris later switched lawyers, and dropped her plans to appeal.Due to various reasons, the Los Angeles County Sheriff anticipates Hilton to only serve about 23 days of her sentence. She will be housed in a special location within the jail facility "reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates".
On June 3, 2007, after attending the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, where she was insulted by host Sarah Silverman[43] , Hilton checked herself into the Men's Central Jail of the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles at 11:38 pm PDT. From there Hilton was then taken by authorities to the Century Regional Detention Facility an all female jail in Lynwood, California. Hilton was given the inmate booking number 9818783. Hilton will only serve 23 days of her 45 day sentence pending good behaviour
This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions," Hilton said in a statement released through her lawyer. "In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make. Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence."
She's acted like a spoiled little rich girl who is above everybody and everything. But we never, ever dreamed that she would end up in jail. However,we should believe that jail will be good for her.
